About Dr. Hines
Dr. Clinton Hines is a Visiting Assistant Professor of Mathematics and a proud Berea College alumnus. Driven by the College’s mission, he is dedicated to creating a collaborative, inquiry-driven environment where students actively engage with mathematical ideas.

Teaching & Mentorship
Dr. Hines teaches across the curriculum, from foundational courses in Calculus I, Linear Algebra, and Trigonometry to advanced seminars in Topology. His teaching emphasizes active learning, open-source resources like Runestone Academy, and dynamic visualization tools to make complex concepts intuitive.

Beyond the classroom, Dr. Hines contributes to departmental leadership through curriculum development and collaborates with colleagues to mentor students in co-curricular projects, including guiding student teams at regional ASA DataFest competitions.

Research & Departmental Leadership
Dr. Hines’s research focuses on algebraic topology and geometry, specifically the Todd genus and the geometry of quasitoric manifolds.

He also coordinates Berea’s twice monthly Math Lunch seminar series, bringing students and faculty together in an informal setting to explore topics beyond the traditional curriculum, connecting abstract theory to real-world applications.
